Our approach

At Northern Therapeutic Alliance, therapy is grounded in effective, holistic, and evidence-based practice, with a focus on treating ADHD, anxiety disorders, addiction and generalist mental health counselling.

Shannon Briggs, a registered therapist with over 15 years of clinical experience, offers a person-centred and solution-focused approach. Therapy is tailored to each individual’s needs and may include techniques such as Motivational Interviewing, Exposure Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), and Psychodynamic approaches.

Specialising in ADHD, Shannon provides support for individuals navigating diagnosis, developing systems to manage day-to-day challenges, and learning to harness their strengths. His approach is strength-based and practical, aiming to foster greater self-understanding and empowerment.

Shannon is Medicare registered and offers rebated sessions under the Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP).

Shannon Briggs has worked as a mental health clinician for over 15 years and is currently registered as an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW). He is the founder and practice manager of NTA and brings a deep commitment to personalised, evidence-based care.

Shannon’s therapeutic approach is grounded in the philosophy of Irvin Yalom, who proposed that therapists should “create a new therapy for each patient.” This perspective guides Shannon’s belief in flexibility, collaboration, and recognising the unique story and needs of each individual. His sessions draw from a wide range of therapeutic models, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, and Psychoanalytic approaches.

Shannon has developed a special interest in ADHD and works extensively with both diagnosed individuals and those exploring the possibility of an ADHD presentation. He takes a strength-based perspective, focusing on helping clients understand and harness the unique traits of ADHD while addressing common challenges like disorganisation, emotional overwhelm, procrastination, and time management. He is passionate about helping clients navigate diagnosis, build systems that support success, and feel more confident and empowered in daily life.

In addition to ADHD, Shannon has extensive experience working with anxiety disorders, phobias, addiction recovery, and general mental health concerns. He has worked in a range of clinical settings including suicide prevention services, employee assistance programs, and drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Drawing on this background, he often incorporates twelve-step recovery principles, particularly when supporting clients through addiction or recovery-focused work.

Shannon holds a Bachelor of Psychological Science and a Bachelor of Social Work, and offers Medicare-rebated psychological services under the Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP).
